Sense and Sensibility

Hay palabras que no entendemos. Como cada vez que leemos los clásicos de la literatura en inglés tenemos dificultades en cuanto al vocabulario, a los lugares históricos y geográficos, etc. Veamos algunas palabras, un tanto oscuras, analizadas en contexto.

She was generous, amiable, interesting: she was everything but prudent.

Moiety: mitad

Fancy: imaginación

Alloy: aleación femenino. Impureza. The state of impairing the quality or reducing the value of something. The condition of being impure. Alloy es un término relacionado a la química, aleación, mezcla; pero en este caso: “. . . pero en la tristeza se dejaba llevar por su imaginación y tanto en la consolación como el placer ella estaba más allá de la impureza”

Este término me parece algo complicado de interpretar.

Annuity: pensión, anualidad

Clogg: obstruir

Superannuated: retirados
